I’m worried about starting spironolactone because I’m afraid I won’t be able to get off of it. Should I still start it?
Oral medications are often used as a bridge while topical medications take effect. Once your topical treatments are optimized, it’s possible you may no longer need spironolactone. Unfortunately, some cases of adult female acne cannot be controlled with topical medications alone. In this case, continuing oral spironolactone may be needed to control acne. Spironolactone is safe to take long-term.
