I’m worried about starting spironolactone because I’m afraid I won’t be able to get off of it. Should I still start it?

Ideally, acne is best controlled with just topical medications. Oral medications are often used as a bridge while topical medications take effect. Once your topical treatments are optimized, it’s possible you may no longer need spironolactone. Unfortunately, some cases of adult female acne cannot be controlled with topicals medications alone. Spironolactone can be helpful for these cases and is safe to take long-term.
