If I am an adult woman with hormonal acne, why am I being treated with non-hormonal medications?

Hormones play a role in all forms of acne. Similar medications are often used regardless of sex when treating acne as a teenager, an adult, or during menopause. Additionally, women may be treated with hormonal oral medications such as birth control pills or spironolactone to treat acne when appropriate.
